We have a new test – The Pharmanex Scanner non-invasively measures carotenoid levels from the palm of your hand. These carotenoid measurements provide an immediate indication of your antioxidant levels and the potential oxidative stress on your body. The skin carotenoid score (SCS) is reflective of long-term lifestyle habits including diet, exercise, smoking and stress levels. With this information, one can make educated changes in daily life to improve overall health. For eye health this score reflects the quantity of macular pigments which are essential to protect against Age-related Macular Degeneration.

How it works:

The scanner emits a narrow beam of blue light. These blue light photons have a wave length of 478 nm. When the blue light photons meet a carotenoid, they get excited and turn into 518 nm or green light. The scanner measures the green light photons reflected back which is the concentration of carotenoids in the skin.

The technology of the Pharmanex scanner is based on an optical method known as Resonant Raman Spectroscopy, which has been used for many years in research laboratories. In less than a minute you can find out if your diet, lifestyle and supplements provide the antioxidant protection you need for promoting health and protecting against chronic diseases.
