Eye Exams

Our comprehensive eye exams go beyond achieving your best vision possible.

Our top priority is the health of your eyes. No matter your age, it is important to have a regularly scheduled exam – to diagnose vision complications, detect manageable conditions and treat ocular diseases early.

Every patient has different needs and concerns. It is our goal to understand these concerns and provide a personalized exam to ensure you reach optimal vision and ocular health. Our doctors take the time necessary to discuss diagnosed conditions and arrange an appropriate treatment plan.

For Children

Children should have an annual eye exam.

Your child’s exam should be fun and thorough, detecting visual complications not apparent with a simple sight test. Our experience with children makes their time in the clinic comfortable and enjoyable.

Pre-Operative and Post-Operative Care

Laser Eye Surgery

We provide exceptional care before and after laser eye surgery. The initial consultation will determine if you are a candidate. We will discuss different options available and any questions or concerns you have regarding the procedure. We can also recommend clinics we have worked with in the past that have had outstanding results.

Your post op care is a vital part of the healing process. Periodic appointments starting days after your surgery will ensure your vision is progressing towards optimal. We work closely with your surgeon to make sure you have the best outcome possible.

Cataract Surgery

Regular comprehensive eye exams detect the beginning stages of cataracts. We will monitor their progression and refer to an Ophthalmologist for surgery as needed. The Ophthalmologist will discuss the best treatment options for you and ensure you are healing well. Our clinic offers post operative care when the Ophthalmologist is unavailable.

Typically, 6 weeks after the cataract removal we will see you back in our office to determine if a new prescription will be necessary.

Other post op care

Post op care after other surgical procedures like blepharoplasty (lid surgery), chalazion removal, corneal cross-linking and other customized treatments.

Completion of forms and all required testing provided including color vision, stereopsis, and visual acuities. Complete eye health and refraction with baseline testing of retinal photos and visual fields are included as part of the comprehensive eye exam if prompted.

Drivers license forms

All follow up testing required to complete this form are available- Visual fields, stereopsis, colour vision, binocular function, OCT Imaging, visual acuities and complete eye health.

Traumatic Brain Injury

Individuals who have suffered a head injury can endure physical, cognitive, social, and vocational changes that may affect them for a short period of time or permanently. It is our goal to improve the ability to function in everyday life.

For many, a traumatic brain injury (TBI) can result in an inability to maintain attention and concentration, blurry or double vision, add significant sensitivities to light, glare, contrast, bright colors and patterns. With a comprehensive eye exam and further testing, we are able to determine if Optometric Vision Therapy will improve the comfort, function and overall visual outcome.

We will work closely with your rehabilitation team of specialists and doctors to bring you the best care after your injury.

Developmental Eye Exams

Developmental eye exams look at the way your child’s eyes are teaming, tracking and focusing. The exam evaluates how well their eyes work together, how they move while reading, as well as how quickly and easily they can change focus from far to near work.

Since 80% of learning is visual, it makes sense that vision problems can seriously affect a child’s education . Children are often misdiagnosed with ADD or ADHD because they take longer to do school work, have poor reading comprehension, skip or misread lines, and have a short attention span for close work.

Fortunately, many of these difficulties are treatable through Optometric Vision Therapy.

Our evaluation includes a 1/2-hour session with pre-testing: patient history, refractions, games and writing skills and a 1-hour session with the doctor to completely check the health and development of your child’s eyes.

Contact our office to learn more about our Developmental eye exams and how they may improve your child’s learning process and success in school.

Dry Eye

During your comprehensive eye exam our doctors will determine if you are having issues with dry eyes. They will establish if it is a gland dysfunction, abnormal tear chemistry or another systemic condition. Filling out the Canadian Dry Eye Assessment will help grade the severity of your symptoms. After a thorough discussion, the doctor will provide you with a treatment plan and follow up appointments if needed.

Get the Facts on Dry Eye Disease

Our goal is to see you as soon as possible if you have an ocular emergency.

We will do our best to triage your emergency and direct you to the best possible outcome, including same day appointments as required.

We can treat:

  • Pain and swelling of the eyes
  • Irritated red eyes
  • Acute or chronic eye infections
  • Foreign body removal
  • Sudden vision changes
  • Vision loss or abnormalities

If we cannot see you in an appropriate time-frame we will refer you for suitable care and attention with an eye care provider.

If a SUDDEN decrease in your vision is apparent, please call our office as soon as possible (Same day).

Advanced Technology

All tests are included in our comprehensive eye exam fees

Optomap

200 degree retinal imaging with layering differentiation, developed to optimize management of AMD, uveitic conditions and other choroidal pathology.

Up to 82% of the retina is captured in a single image, as well as eyecare professionals being able to see 50% more of the retina when compared to other conventional imaging devices.

New hardware and software technology enables practitioners to see more, discover more and effectively treat more ocular pathology thus promoting patient health.

Visual Fields Testing

Numerous studies have shown that FDT offers a high sensitivity and specificity in the detection of early glaucomatous damage, and in other disorders ranging from ocular, retinal, neurological and neuro-ophthalmological causes.

The Medmont M700 uses standard static perimetry to assess visual field loss pertaining to the detection of various diseases, such as, brain tumors, strokes, diabetes, glaucoma, and more. Tests range from neurological, driving, binocular, central and many more.

Our office has both the M700 and FDT for perimetry testing.

Topcon TRK

4-in-1 testing for auto-refraction, keratometry, tonometry and pachymetry. This technology allows for patients to stay in one place – perfect for patients with mobility concerns.

Auto-refraction gives the Optometrists a starting prescription to work with, tonometry checks the internal pressure of the eyes. Keratometry measures the curvature of the cornea and pachymetry measures the thickness of your cornea, both can detect conditions and are part of a pre-operative laser eye surgery exam.

Ocular Coherence Tomography

The OCT provides detailed cross-sectional retinal scans and high resolution fundus photography.

These are used to study the anatomy of the retina and optic nerve. Anterior segment photography helps with specialty contact lens fittings.

Innovative reports streamline the diagnosis process, making it faster and easier to detect the beginning of ocular conditions.

MX-2 Meibography

An external ocular camera used to assess the health of the oil glands in the upper and lower lids.

Images provide greater detail of blepharitis, small structures of the lids, measure tear meniscus and meibomian gland length as part of a dry eye workup.

Records important pathology and measures lesions for future comparisons, making it easier to educate patients about blepharitis and dry eye disease.

I-Care

Measures the intraocular pressure with reliable results.

The gentle probe requires no anesthetic drops and is fast and convenient. Increased IOP (intraocular pressure) is a known risk factor for glaucoma, routine measurements and glaucoma screenings are important.

Cannon CR-2

Provides ultra-high resolution, 24-megapixel, wide-angle views with excellent color, detail and contrast –  making it easy for the diagnosis and detection of ocular conditions and diseases.

Topography

Precise and accurate data captured across the cornea, creating a topographical map.

Used to assess astigmatism, aid in specialty contact lens fitting and detect corneal pathologies.

Non-Invasive dry eye analysis is more sensitive and specific in measuring tear-breakup.
