Testimonials from OCR patients

"The [OCR lenses] have made life a lot easier because now I can do gymnastics without glasses. It also helps with school, it is easy to see the board and not having to wear glasses is nice. Wearing them at night is very convenient because most of the time I don’t even realize they are in. It is a lot better than day time contacts, because I don’t have to worry about them irritating my eyes during the day."

"My [OCR lenses] make my life/wearing contacts so much more convenient. I don’t have to worry about loose screws or fogged lenses on glasses, dry eyes during the day or lenses falling out. I can swim and play sports with no inconvenience.

I like that these lenses are worn while sleeping. That is THE best part about them."

"As a parent of an [OCR lens] wearer I have been pleasantly surprised at how easily Kieran adapted to wearing the lenses at night. It was a bit of a struggle at first to get used to putting the contacts in but he was very good at working through the initial discomfort in sleeping with something foreign in his eyes! Now on the few occasions he does not wear them at night, he finds he misses them! Not wearing contacts during the day has been a blessing for such an active person-no worries on the basketball court of losing a lens or during his swim lessons on his way to lifeguarding-the total freedom during the day has been ideal for a busy school student."

Overnight Corneal Reshaping (OCR)
(also known as Orthokeratology)

Overnight Corneal Reshaping (OCR) is done with special contact lenses that gently flatten the cornea (front of the eye) to allow the eye to see clearly without glasses or contact lenses. This is also known as Accelerated Orthokeratology (AOK).

Myopia - What is it, and how can overnight corneal reshaping help?

Information taken from okglobal.org - Click to learn more.

Myopia, also known as is a progressive visual disorder that results poor distance vision. If the myopia is severe, it will impair near vision as well. Myopia is also known as "near-sighted" or "short-sighted." In addition to weakening vision, it also changes the physical structure of the eye. It can steepen the front surface of the eye (cornea) and/or stretch the retina (axial elongation). These changes increase the risk of future eye disease. It is one of the leading causes of blindness around the world and has a direct association with retinal detachments and glaucoma.

In the most basic of terms Overnight Corneal Reshaping or Orthokeratology is the science of changing the curvature or shape of the cornea to change how light is focused on the retina at the back of one's eye. It has been demonstrated, within a ten year time frame, that fully 70% of all participants in a corneal reshaping control group did not progress in degree of myopia over the period studied.

Dr. Klosterman talks about a new alternative to Lasik Surgery called Ortho K Lenses.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

Overnight Corneal Reshaping uses rigid gas permeable contact lenses to flatten the cornea as you sleep. The lenses are then removed upon waking and you enjoy great vision all day without the need for glasses or contact lenses.

What are the benefits of Overnight Corneal Reshaping lenses?

There are three main benefits:

  • No glasses or contact lenses are needed during waking hours.
  • Studies show Overnight Corneal Reshaping lenses reduce nearsighted progression by 51% on average.
  • Axial growth (elongation) of the eye is 63% less with Overnight Corneal Reshaping lenses.

Results in our clinic have been very favorable. Dr. Loose has been fitting these lenses since 2000.
